Matt Mitrione has offered to fight Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 153 after Geronimo Dos Santos was forced to withdraw with an injury.

Mitrione, who risked the wrath of Dana White when he turned down Strikeforce heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, attempted to resolve his dispute with the UFC president when he offered to step in to fight at late notice.

The former TUF contestant, who is 5-1 in the UFC after his defeat to Cheick Kongo at UFC 137, took to Twitter to put the proposal to White.

He tweeted: "@danawhite I'll fight @gonzagabjj if you can get me a visa. I turned down DC due to [wrestling], lemme take this fight!"

UFC 153 takes place on October 13 in Rio de Janeiro, where home favourite Anderson Silva will take on Stephan Bonnar at light heavyweight.
