Stephan Bonnar failed a drugs test after his defeat to Anderson Silva at UFC 153, it has emerged.

Bonnar, who announced his retirement earlier this week, tested positive for anabolic steroid Drostanolone, while Dave Herman also failed a test following the event in Brazil, with traces of marijuana detected.

With no athletic commission to govern the event in Rio de Janeiro last month, the UFC confirmed that all 24 fighters on the main card were tested.

UFC executive Marc Ratner confirmed the results to MMA Junkie and the organisation is expected to hand out suspensions next week.

It is the second infringement for both fighters. Bonnar was suspended for nine months after he tested positive for another anabolic steroid, Boldenone, back in 2006.

Herman was pulled from UFC 136 after testing positive for marijuana during a pre-fight screening last year.
