Injury sees Maynard replaced by Miller at UFC 155
The UFC's injury crisis in 2012 took another scalp on Wednesday as it was announced that Gray Maynard has pulled out of his year-end fight against Joe Lauzon at UFC 155 in Las Vegas.
Former title-contender Maynard was the second fighter to pull out of a bout on Wednesday after UFC president Dana White told his Twitter followers that Shane Carwin was out of his fight against Roy Nelson at the TUF 16 Finale.
Just 45 minutes after White's announcement the UFC's official Twitter account tweeted that lightweight Maynard was out with an unspecified injury: "PLUS Gray Maynard injured, out of Lauzon fight at UFC 155 - Jim Miller stepping in to take his place," the UFC tweeted.
It is another blow for the UFC, which has suffered from a large number of high-profile fight losses in 2012.
However, the change of plan represents a major opportunity for Miller, who is looking to bounce back from a lop-sided defeat to Nate Diaz. Victory for either Miller of Lauzon on December 29 propels them towards title contention.
