Weidman predicts four-month absence

Chris Weidman has confirmed he expects to be out for four months following surgery on his shoulder.

Weidman was pulled from the UFC 155 card on December 29, where he was supposed to fight Tim Boetsch. It was immediately revealed that he would be sidelined for three-to-six months.

The American picked up the injury during training, when he was grappling with Ryan Bader and Gian Villante. He had surgery this week and has put a more specific timeline on his recovery.

"Off to get surgery today," Weidman tweeted. "Excited to get this over with and get rehabbing and come back stronger than ever.

"Thanks for the support. I'm told I'll be at 100 per cent at four months if everything goes smoothly."

Weidman had been pressing for a middleweight title shot prior to the injury, with victory over Boetsch potentially taking him to a showdown against Anderson Silva. He will now have to make up for lost time when he returns, most likely in April.
