Injury shocker for Dominick Cruz

Dominick Cruz's return from injury is likely to be delayed by another 12 months on account of a serious setback in his recovery from his knee injury.

Cruz underwent reconstructive surgery in his knee in June, but his body rejected the original anterior cruciate ligament placed in his left knee. And on account of that, a second bout of surgery has taken place and it is likely to be a year before he is back in action.

Cruz has not fought since a successful defence of his UFC bantamweight title against Demetrious Johnson in October 2011.

In Cruz's absence, Renan Barao has stepped up and is the current interim bantamweight champion.
