Dana White has told Johny Hendricks he agrees that the welterweight deserves a UFC title crack, but Jake Shields says the American should stop crying over news that he will not be next in line.

White revealed on Thursday that he will likely match Nick Diaz with Georges St-Pierre for the next 170lb title bout, despite Diaz coming off a loss and suspension. The decision, White says, is based on GSP's own request to meet Diaz.

Should the fight happen the man to lose out would be clear No. 1 contender Hendricks, who has beaten the likes of Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch and Martin Kampmann on a five-fight win streak. He instantly complained about White's decision, and the president sympathised.

"Asking all fans to let Dana White know you don't agree!" Hendricks tweeted on Thursday.

White then replied: "I agree that you deserve it and you will get your shot."

However, Hendricks got a less sympathetic response from fellow welterweight Shields, who is a team-mate of Diaz. Shields, who boasts a poor 2-2 UFC record with one no-contest - and who is also suspended - decided to snap back at Hendricks.

"Quit crying," Shields tweeted. "Nick's done more than you. It's cool you beat my old punching bags at AKA but I think you need to fight me next."
