St-Pierre ankle fears eased

Fears over Georges St-Pierre's Achilles injury have been allayed by a UFC Canada official, according to MMA Fighting.

St-Pierre defeated Nick Diaz at UFC 158 by a comfortable unanimous decision, before declaring that he wanted a break ahead of his next return to the Octagon.

It was then revealed by the welterweight champion's camp that he had entered the bout with Diaz carrying an Achilles injury that had inhibited his ability to train. Firas Zahabi, St-Pierre's coach, expressed his wish for GSP to take six months off.

Such an absence sparked fears over the potential for St-Pierre to face Johny Hendricks in his next fight - with Hendricks confirmed as the No. 1 contender at the same event. However, it appears GSP will be ready when he gets the call to fight again.

"GSP has done some sprint training while on holiday and is fine, despite the injury report," the UFC Canada official is quoted as saying.

"Georges told [his manager Rodolphe Beaulieu] everything is OK."

Zahabi recently cast doubt over St-Pierre's capacity to have more than two or three more fights, citing the rigorous training regime he requires. Should the clock be ticking for the legendary welterweight, the Anderson Silva super-fight may also be entering the equation in the near future.
