McGregor: F*ck the recession, I'm taking over

Conor McGregor has issued a veiled warning to Jose Aldo, insisting "I'm the champ" after his magnificent UFC featherweight debut.

McGregor, who is a big believer in visualisation, had stated his confidence prior to Saturday's UFC Sweden card, telling ESPN: "The belt is already around my waste."

It seemed a lofty statement for a fighter who had yet to have one fight under the UFC banner, but McGregor delivered big on debut against Marcus Brimage, stopping him in 67 seconds. President Dana White now plans to take McGregor to Boston in August.

Speaking post-fight, McGregor's trademark confidence was there for all to see, and he refused to place too much importance on the Brimage win - insisting victory is only the platform for much bigger things to come.

"Without a doubt, I'm the champ," he said. "I feel like I'm strong in my mind, but I'm still growing and learning.

"Each [fight] gets easier. People talk about the UFC jitters and all that, but it felt no different… I feel like I can handle the nerves."

McGregor took home $60,000 for the Knockout of the Night on Saturday, and after initially admitting he didn't know how to spend the money, the Irishman now plans to propel himself into the type of fights that will set him up for life.

"It's only the beginning for me - I'm not stopping, I'm going to take over," McGregor promised. "All week I felt like the star and I felt like I stole the show.

"I'm going to steal all the money from the UFC and hightail it back to Ireland with a big bag of money. F*ck the recession!"
