UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones has responded to challenger Chael Sonnen's tirade of trash-talk by slamming his use of Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT).

The pair meet at UFC 159 on April 27, and despite clear mutual respect between the two competitors, Sonnen has continued to provoke the champion into a response through his pre-fight hype.

'Bones' finally broke his silence through Twitter, aiming a slur at 'The People's Champion' for his use of TRT.

"Take steroids in your prime testosterone levels drop then you take TRT to get in your prime again," Jones said on his Twitter account. "Maybe I should just join the team $$$"

Sonnen was handed a one-year suspension after testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone following his bout with Anderson Silva in 2010, but appealed under the grounds of medical use. The American believed he had taken the necessary steps to highlight his condition, and upon appeal saw his ban cut in half.

Sonnen is one of many fighters to use TRT, with the likes of Dan Henderson and Vitor Belfort also advocates of the treatment. He suffers from hypogonadism, and insists TRT is a vital part of his life.

Jones also posted a video of Sonnen talking about steroid use, nicknaming him 'The Cheater's Champion' in response. The pair meet for the 205lb title in less than two weeks.
