White: GSP only has to ask for Silva and we'll make it
UFC president Dana White will allow Georges St-Pierre to pick his next opponent, although the selection on offer is a shortlist of two: Anderson Silva or Johny Hendricks.
White took questions from the media ahead of Saturday's UFC on Fox event headlined by Benson Henderson's lightweight title defence against Gilbert Melendez.
The subject of conversation soon switched to welterweight champion St-Pierre, who is awaiting news of his next opponent. The Canadian recently beat Nick Diaz, after which he said he needed a vacation.
Hendricks is the top contender at 170lbs and is front-runner to be GSP's next challenge. However, White said he would be calling St-Pierre on Thursday and would be easily persuaded if the champ asked for Silva.
"I am literally going to call Georges St-Pierre today," White said. "We'll see what he wants to do. I'm just feeling him out.
"I'm calling him up saying, 'So, you've had a long time off. You had a vacation. What's up? What are you thinking about?' I want to see what he says.
"If Georges says to me, 'I want to fight Anderson Silva', you think I'm going to go, 'No you're not, you're fighting Johny Hendricks'?"
The choice for St-Pierre, ultimately, might come down to whether he wants to risk missing out on the enormous pay day guaranteed by a scrap with middleweight king Silva.
GSP would undoubtedly be the underdog if the super-fight took place, given the size advantage for Silva, but Hendricks is also a serious threat. Defeat to Hendricks would almost certainly wipe the Silva super-fight off the table, so St-Pierre's next move is awaited with interest.
