Costa Philippou has been forced out of his middleweight bout with Ronald Jacare Souza, which was scheduled to take place in just over two weeks' time.

Philippou, who is on a six-fight tear, was set to welcome Souza to the UFC in Jaragua do Sul on May 18. The card is headlined by Vitor Belfort's clash with Luke Rockhold.

A cut above an eye is cited by MMA Fighting as the reason for Philippou's withdrawal, which left the UFC with a headache regarding a late-notice replacement to fight the dangerous Souza.

Jacare has won his last three and is expected to make a serious impression on the 185lb terrain. He used to own the Strikeforce middleweight strap and will begin his assault on UFC gold on the May 18 card.

He will now face Chris Camozzi, who had been scheduled to fight Rafael Natal. Natal will now take on UFC newcomer Jose Zeferino.
