In-form welterweight Matt Brown is heading for a showdown with Thiago Alves, according to MMA Fighting.

Brown is on a roll at 170lbs, beating Jordan Mein last time out to chalk up a fifth consecutive win. Four of those five victories have ended in a stoppage.

Undoubtedly one of the most aggressive and entertaining individuals in the division, Brown has earned a big name, and it appears former No. 1 contender Alves has verbally agreed to the bout.

The pair are expected to meet on August 17 in Boston, on what will be the first event to take place on the new Fox Sports 1 channel. The UFC has promised a huge card to mark the occasion.

Neither Brown nor Alves have yet signed a fight contract, but it is reported that the Pitbull is returning for his first encounter since March 2012.
