The UFC recently promised that the forthcoming event in Boston would feature one of the best ever line-ups, and the tone has been set by the first two announced bouts.

The previously reported welterweight showdown of Muay Thai wrecking machine Thiago Alves and in-form Matt Brown was confirmed by the promotion's official Twitter account on Monday.

Also announced was what promises to be a fast-paced encounter between lightweights Joe Lauzon and Michael Johnson.

The Boston event represents the UFC's first appearance on the new Fox Sports 1 channel, so president Dana White is preparing a card worthy of the occasion. The main event is yet to be named but a major bout is anticipated.

Alves heads to the Octagon for the first time in over a year, having once been the No. 1 contender at 170lbs. Brown, by contrast, is in the form of his life having won his last five - beating Jordan Mein last time out.

Lauzon produced one of the scraps of the year in defeat to Jim Miller in his last outing, while Johnson is in danger of the cut if he adds to back-to-back losses.
