Unable to quickly secure a replacement for injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, UFC has removed former light-heavyweight champion Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua from its June 15 event in Winnipeg, Manitoba, promotion officials announced on Monday night.
UFC 161 will proceed with 11 bouts. Former light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans faces Dan Henderson in the main event.
Rua will compete in a UFC event later this summer.
Nogueira and Rua were scheduled to meet in the UFC 161 co-main event. But Nogueira suffered a back injury and withdrew from the event on Sunday. The two fought in June 2005 on a Pride FC card, Rua won that bout by unanimous decision.
Chael Sonnen, who fought for the light-heavyweight and middleweight titles, offered to replace Nogueira and fight Rua, but UFC officials opted not to accept.
