Light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones will put his title on the line on September 21 against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 in Toronto, promotion president Dana White said on ESPN Deportes Radio.

White later confirmed the bout with ESPN.com.

Jones and Gustafsson have been open about their desire to fight one another. The two briefly engaged in a war of words on Twitter.

"Fighting me is not good for your image [Gustafsson] FYI," Jones said.

Jones (18-1) returns to action for the first time since retaining his title on April 27 in Newark with a first-round TKO of Chael Sonnen. During the bout, however, Jones suffered a broken toe on his left foot.

Gustafsson improved to 15-1 on December 8, 2012, with a unanimous decision over former 205-pound champion Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua.

Jones is the No. 2-ranked mixed martial artist by ESPN.com; only middleweight champion Anderson Silva is ranked higher. Gustafsson is ranked third among light-heavyweights.
