Louisiana bans female fighters with breast implants
Louisiana has banned female boxers and MMA fighters who have breast implants from all bouts unless they get clearance from the doctors who performed their plastic surgery.
"If they want to look good, then they don't have to be in the ring," said Louisiana State Boxing and Wrestling Commission chief Harold Williams.
The decision will apply for two months while the commission gathers more information about how other states work. Options include a total ban on fighters with breast implants or demanding those concerned sign a waiver.
Thomas Ferguson, a doctor on the commission, said he thought it was unlikely any surgeon who had performed such an operation would sign anything clearing their patient to fight. "I don't know of a single plastic surgeon who is going to allow his artistic work to be messed up."
Commission vice chairman Buddy Embanato said there were concerns about who would be responsible if an implant burst during a bout.
