Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans will undergo knee surgery in Los Angeles this week, according to a statement released by his team.

Evans (19-3-1) had been scheduled to face Daniel Cormier in the co-main event of UFC 170 on Saturday in Las Vegas, but withdrew last Wednesday due to injury.

"I am deeply disappointed to be missing the action at UFC 170," said Evans, in the release. "But I am, as always, incredibly grateful for the support of my family, friends, management, the UFC, and most of all my fans during this minor setback.

"Thank you for your continued messages of support. I'll be back stronger than ever."

Originally, Evans was expected to avoid surgery and miss only four weeks. That diagnosis was changed the next day, although no further details have been provided.
