A heavyweight contest between Alistair Overeem and Ben Rothwell has been confirmed for a UFC Fight Night event on September 5 in Connecticut.

UFC officials confirmed the heavyweight bout to ESPN.com, following an initial news report by Fox Sports. The live event will take place at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Ledyard.

Overeem (37-13) is coming off a unanimous decision win over former heavyweight champion Frank Mir at UFC 169 in February. The win snapped a two-fight skid in which Overeem suffered knockout losses to Antonio Silva and Travis Browne.

A former Strikeforce, DREAM and K1 kickboxing champion, Overeem underwent a minor procedure in April to address a pinched nerve in his elbow. He recently relocated his training camp from the Blackzilians in Boca Raton, Florida, to Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Rothwell (33-9) has not fought since a third-round TKO win over Brandon Vera at UFC 164 last August in Milwaukee.

The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services granted Rothwell, 32, a use exemption for testosterone-replacement therapy prior to the bout, but a fight-night test revealed his levels of testosterone were above the allowed limit.

The UFC suspended Rothwell nine months for the positive test. Rothwell is 3-3 since signing with the UFC in 2009. He fought current UFC champion Cain Velasquez in his promotional debut in October 2009 and lost via second-round TKO.
