UFC release Silva again citing new evidence

For the second time this year, the UFC has released light heavyweight Thiago Silva due to an alleged domestic violence incident involving his ex-wife.

Silva, 31, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder on February 6, after he allegedly threatened his estranged wife with a gun outside a mixed martial arts academy in Oakland Park, Florida. The charges were later reduced to aggravated assault with a firearm. The UFC initially terminated Silva's contract at that time.

On September 5, the Broward County Attorney's Office confirmed to ESPN that all charges against Silva had been dropped, as the alleged victim had become "increasingly uncooperative". The UFC re-signed Silva (16-3) shortly after the charges were dropped.

Citing "new information," the UFC announced on Friday that it had again terminated Silva's deal.

"Based on new information received today in the form of video and audio evidence, Silva has been terminated from his UFC contract," the promotion told ESPN.

Silva's management did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Silva has not fought since October 2013. He was scheduled to fight Mike Hayes on August 29 at a regional event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but withdrew due to a knee injury.
