Gonzaga says potential final goodbye to the UFC

Gabriel Gonzaga appears to have said his final goodbye to the UFC after he was cut by MMA's most prominent organisation on Thursday.
On the same day that president Dana White announced that two new weight divisions would be added to the UFC ranks, he also signed off two big names on his roster. Having released Patrick Cote from the middleweight category, White also wielded the axe over former heavyweight title challenger Gonzaga.
The Brazilian has fought in the UFC since 2005, recording 12 bouts in total, winning seven and losing five. The first four of those victories came back-to-back and included one of the most memorable knockouts of all time against Mirko Cro Cop, earning Gonzaga a title shot, but he was soundly beaten by the legendary Randy Couture.
More recently, Gonzaga has lost three of his last four, although one of those defeats came against Shane Carwin, whom he floored before Carwin miraculously recovered to turn the bout on its head. A less impressive defeat to Brendan Schaub at UFC 121 marked Gonzaga's most recent outing, and a unanimous decision loss appears to have proved the final straw.
And, unlike Cote, it seems the 31-year-old Gonzaga may not be too desperate to return to the UFC in the future. Responding to his axing on Twitter, he wrote: "Back to normal life and [Brazilian jiu-jitsu] forever."
