Jones vows to take Shogun on his first day at school
Jon Jones has confessed that Mauricio Shogun Rua can "do it all", but he warned the Brazilian that it will feel like his first day of school when he meets MMA's new generation at UFC 128.
Jones challenges Rua for the UFC light-heavyweight title, and he goes into the bout with a nine-inch reach advantage, a significant height advantage, and a perceived wrestling superiority. He is even signing his name as 'champion', something Rua finds "ridiculous".
Shogun has long been one of the top 205-pounders on the planet, but Jones insists the Brazilian has had his share of "flukes" and he claims the champion will never have met somebody like the challenger.
"I'm fighting one of the best pound-for-pounders in the whole world. His strength is that he is a well-rounded mixed martial artist. He can do it all," said Jones. "His jiu-jitsu's solid, his takedowns are solid, his striking is solid.
"I've just got to keep my hands up and have fun, and do what I do. I believe in myself, I believe we can strike with him, we can wrestle with him and we can roll with him.
"I have visions of beating Shogun. I have visions of being too big, too fast and too new school. I'll be a breath of fresh air that he can't handle."
