Ashamed Wanderlei wants revenge, not retirement

Wanderlei Silva is showing no signs of retiring, insisting the only thing he wants after the Chris Leben loss is "revenge".

Silva's 15-year MMA career is on the brink after he was crumpled by Leben in a 27-second knockout. The Axe Murderer has been finished in four of his last eight fights, and there is growing clamour for the legendary Brazilian to hang up his mitts.

Certainly UFC president Dana White predicted that UFC 132 would be the end for Wanderlei, but Lyoto Machida had words of hope for his compatriot, pointing out fortunes can be reversed.

"I don't believe it's the end, if he wants to keep going he still has a lot of things to do. He's experienced, and still has time to fight," Machida told Tatame.

Wanderlei has now shown a clear intent to get back inside the Octagon, meaning White could be heading for a difficult conversation with the middleweight.

"I cried; I had all kinds of awful thoughts; and I'm ashamed," Wanderlei admitted on Twitter. "Now I'm only thinking about one thing: I want revenge."
