Mark Webber believes Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel will be able to extend his advantage at the top of the timesheets when it comes to qualifying for the US Grand Prix on Saturday.

Webber was just 0.115s off in second practice on Friday, but it took Vettel several attempts to get a clean lap, by which time is tyres were past their best. Webber out-qualified Vettel in Abu Dhabi but does not fancy his chances of a repeat in the USA.

"It was Seb's fourth attempt, I think, so he didn't get the best from his tyres," Webber explained. "That's unfortunate for us and fortunate for him. Today was a lot about tyres again and working out how they work. A normal Friday.

"I'll try to get involved again [in the fight for pole] tomorrow if I can. Obviously he wasn't happy in Abu Dhabi but then he destroyed us in the race. I'll try to have a clean Saturday and Sunday as well and look to get the best result for myself and the team."

He said his car still didn't feel perfect during Friday practice.

"The car still doesn't feel mega, we've got work to do, but that's normal for us and we'll find some performance overnight and keep going."
