Manu Tuilagi is expected to miss the remainder of the domestic season through injury, according to Leicester Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill.

Tigers and England centre Tuilagi has not featured since he suffered a groin injury in early October and Cockerill is not expecting the 23-year-old back anytime soon.

However, the Tigers boss believes Tuilagi could be fit in time for England's World Cup warm-up fixtures this summer, where he hopes to see the player fight it out for a place in Stuart Lancaster's final squad.

"He's improving all the time but it's a long process," Cockerill told the BBC. "The likelihood now is he may not play this season.

"The likelihood is he will be fit for June and he'll join England for their World Cup camp. Hopefully he'll be involved in the World Cup warm-ups and have a huge say in how England do."

England begin their World Cup campaign against Fiji on September 18 at Twickenham, but face France both home and away in August as part of their final preparations. England's final warm-up clash comes against Ireland at Twickenham on September 5.
