A Springbok scrum-half who has become one of the Premiership's most assured performers, Claassens led Bath in the 2009-10 season in which a disastrous start finished in a remarkable transformation that ended in a semi-final appearance.
Claassens, who won eight caps for the Springboks between 2004 and 2007, joined Bath from the Cheetahs before the 2007-08 season. As a combative No.9, he adjusted quickly to life in the Premiership and has earned a reputation as one of the top players in his position.
He is attributed to having helped Bath develop their attacking style helped by having fellow South African Butch James at outside-half. Claassens signed a contract extension which will keep him at the Recreation Ground until the end of the 2010-11 season.
