Lewis injury not as bad as feared

The Ospreys have received good news after flanker Ben Lewis was released from hospital with no long term damage on the neck injury he picked up against Aironi last Friday.

The openside was taken to Morriston Hospital on Saturday in order to undergo further tests on the injury, which caused him to be carried from the field on a spinal board. There were concerns that the player, who has had an unfortunate time of it with injuries in his career to date, might be a long term absentee.

But the Liberty Stadium club have revealed the damage to the player was not as bad as first feared. "I'm pleased to be able to say that it's good news regarding Ben's recovery," Ospreys head physio Chris Towers said.

"After being admitted to Morriston Hospital on Saturday night and undergoing tests and examination, Ben has now been discharged from hospital, and fortunately, has no lasting damage from the neck injury sustained. Under the circumstances, it is still a serious injury and we are still liaising with specialists regarding his recovery but the prognosis is very good.

"Once the initial stage has settled down we will be in a better position to confirm and target a date for Ben to return, which fingers crossed, will not be too lengthy a process."
