Davies injury worry for Wales

Scarlets centre Jonathan Davies has handed Wales another injury scare prior to their showdown with Australia at the Millennium Stadium on November 6.

Warren Gatland's injury-ravaged squad already has holes at fullback, wing and No.8 following the withdrawals of Lee Byrne, Leigh Halfpenny and Ryan Jones, with Davies' ankle problem causing a further headache for the Kiwi coach.

"Jon Davies has gone down with an injury in training," Gatland said. "It limits our midfield options a little bit. But you can't dwell on it - you have got to put it behind you."

The Wales camp will hope that the injury is not a recurrence of the problem that kept Davies out of the Scarlets' recent Heineken Cup fixtures, with the All Blacks and Springboks lying in wait following their opening encounter with the Wallabies.

Andrew Bishop and Tom Shanklin now look set to start the November series as a new-look centre pairing given James Hook's possible move to fullback.
