Veteran Cardiff Blues flanker Martyn Williams is expected to be out of action for a minimum of six weeks after suffering a broken arm in the defeat against Ulster on Friday night.

Williams was left out of Warren Gatland's 30-man Wales squad for the tournament in New Zealand but was likely to have been considered as a potential back row replacement should Wales have injury problems in that area.

Now 36-year-old Williams' injury setback means he is likely to be stuck on 99 caps for Wales as he is expected to retire from Test rugby after the tournament.

Williams, who started all three of the opening RaboDirect PRO12 fixtures for the Blues this season, suffered the break in the 67th minute of Friday's match and was replaced by Thomas Young, son of London Wasps head coach Dai Young.
