Ospreys prop Adam Jones looks set to be fit for the 2012 Six Nations after it was unearthed that his neck injury is not as serious as previously feared.

Jones left the field during the Ospreys' 22-14 defeat to the Scarlets on Boxing Day which immediately raised concerns over the tight-head's fitness ahead of the Six Nations. But he could return to the pitch on New Year's Day to face the Cardiff Blues - if he comes through a fitness test.

"Adam suffered a minor muscle spasm and we remain hopeful about his prospects of being available for selection on New Year's Day, subject to him undergoing a fitness test later in the week," Ospreys physio Chris Towers said.

And the news will come as a welcome relief to Wales boss Warren Gatland. Jones had missed Wales' previous two Tests - both against Australia - and missed the majority of the 2011 Six Nations with an elbow injury. And Gatland already has to re-jig his pack with Luke Charteris and Alun Wyn Jones both set to miss the tournament.
