Wales and British & Irish Lions centre Jamie Roberts is set to return from his lengthy injury layoff.

Roberts has been sidelined since April after undergoing reconstruction on his knee and despite the original prognosis suggesting that he will be back in action in October, he will be fit for selection from Monday.

The Cardiff Blues face the Dragons on September 15 and Roberts could well be in the mix. "Jamie will be available from selection from Monday," said Blues coach Phil Davies. "He has worked incredibly hard with the medical staff and we have a new piece of equipment that is helping the injured players return.

"He has done well himself in and around all his studying because he is coming to the end of a seven-year degree where he will qualify as a doctor. He has been very focused which has allowed him to get into this situation."

The Blues face Edinburgh on Friday night and they will be able to call on their international contingent. "Sam Warburton, Bradley Davies, Leigh Halfpenny and Alex Cuthbert have come back into the mix with the group we had against Connacht," added Davies. "Slowly but surely we are getting back to full fitness which is pleasing because we have not got a big squad.

"We are starting to try and build a 38-man group which we are confident from selecting from that can go out and do a job. We don't want to rely on certain individuals and we need be able to count on whichever 23 players are selected for that particular game."
