Northampton Saints star George North is adamant "the tries will come" having failed to score in the first three matches of the 2013-14 season for his new club.

North was one of three big-name signings made by Northampton in the run up to the current campaign and shone for the British & Irish Lions on their trip to Australia in the summer. He played a key role in Jamie Elliot's fantastic try at the weekend and while he has contributed to the Saints' start to the season, he is still searching for that elusive first score.

North is no stranger to scoring tries having crossed on his debuts for his previous side the Scarlets and Wales and he is confident the tries will start to come sooner rather than later.

"I've been guilty on a couple of occasions of trying to do too much, trying to play the miracle ball," North told the Telegraph. "The Elliott try at the weekend was a decent try, but hopefully there will be more to come. Obviously I've got more to show myself personally.

"I've had dry patches before, it's the way you deal with them. You don't lose your head but keep coming in on Monday morning and improving. If you can play well and get into those positions, the tries will come."

And North is adamant that once he gets used to the way his new side play, they will see the results on the field. He added: "People love tries. It's not like I'm not trying to score.

"It is about me trying to get myself into the game plan and be as effective as I can and if I can create a couple along the way, that's almost as a good as scoring a try sometimes. Having obviously come in from another club, it's taking me a while to get used to the way we play and the different patterns and plays.

"The more games I play and the more I'm learning, the more chances I'll get. If I can just keep playing well and consistently, it will be a good first season for me in the Premiership and I will be pretty happy."
