British & Irish Lions fullback Leigh Halfpenny has capped a remarkable 2013 by being named on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year shortlist.

Halfpenny scooped Player of the Six Nations and also Man of the Series for his performances on the Lions tour to Australia in the summer. The nomination follows up a busy week for Halfpenny who was included on the five-man list for IRB Player of the Year on Friday.

He is on a 10-man shortlist for the BBC award and will vie with nine other sportsmen and women who have enjoyed impressive years. Tour de France winner Chris Froome is up for the award as is record-breaking jockey AP McCoy. Wimbledon-winner Andy Murray has been nominated alongside Christine Ohuruogu, Justin Rose, Mo Farah, Hannah Cockroft, Ian Bell and Ben Ainslie.

The Team of the Year is yet to be revealed but the Lions will harbour some hope of being in the mix after they ended a 16-year losing run to secure series win in the summer.

Murray is currently odds-on favourite to win with Halfpenny at 100/1. The winner will be announced on December 15.
