Dragons release in-form Dan Evans
January 13, 2014
Newport Gwent Dragons have confirmed that 25-year-old fullback Dan Evans will leave the club at the end of the season even though he has been in good form in recent weeks.
Evans, who played twice for Wales in 2009, will not be retained as the club seeks to make room for Lee Byrne who joins in the summer from Clermont Auvergne.
Dragons' boss Lyn Jones said that the No. 15 spot was earmarked for Byrne and Hallam Amos, and that despite his form there was no place for Evans.
"I think I'll make every player unemployed and I'm sure our performances will improve greatly," said Jones. "We've got to think of the future and Dan is a really good player and I'm sure he'll have no problem picking up a deal with any English or Welsh club in the future.
"And that's all I wish is that players move on and do as well as they can. I made a decision that Lee Byrne and Hallam Amos would be our fullbacks next season and I'm sticking to that."
