Wales' injury problems continue to grow ahead of their tour to South Africa after Scarlets fly-half Rhys Priestland suffered suspected knee ligament damage against Cardiff Blues.

Priestland was helped from the pitch late on at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday and Scarlets head coach Simon Easterby admitted it was difficult to assess the extent of the injury.

"It's difficult at the moment because it looked like a medial ligament injury but it's hard to assess the severity of it," Easterby told WalesOnline. "It was disappointing because Rhys was playing really well and we have been challenging him this week to attack the gainline and he did that really well.

"It is disappointing it happened right at the end and he had to come off and possibly hamper his chances of making the summer tour.

"He has been very good in the environment over the last couple of weeks in particular and I was very pleased with his performance against the Blues."

Wales head coach Warren Gatland is already without captain Sam Warburton, flanker Justin Tipuric and full-back Leigh Halfpenny for the tour, while hooker Richard Hibbard is a doubt. Wales take on the Springboks in a two Test series, with the first clash scheduled for June 14 in Durban.
