Cardiff Blues have confirmed Owen Williams has returned home to Wales after a week in hospital in Singapore after sustaining a serious spinal injury.

Williams, who underwent surgery while in Singapore, was flown home by air ambulance over the weekend and is being assessed and monitored by specialists at University Hospital Wales in Cardiff.

A statement issued by the club thanked the staff at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore for their care and support. "Owen and his family would also like to thank well-wishers for the overwhelming messages of support they continue to receive on a daily basis from around the rugby world.

"Cardiff Blues will continue to share any appropriate updates when available and again requests that the privacy of Owen Williams and his family is respected at this time."

Williams suffered what was described as "significant spinal cord injury" while playing in the inaugural World Cup 10s in Singapore. His family flew to be at his bedside as soon as the seriousness of the injury became apparent.
