London Irish will be without fullback Tom Homer for a minimum of eight weeks due to a knee injury.

Homer picked up the grade two MCL knee sprain during Saturday's match against Harlequins and was forced off after just seven minutes. The news is a huge blow for both player and club as he missed much of last season due to a groin injury.

"It is a set-back for Tom and the club," London Irish boss Brian Smith said. "He has had a great pre-season and was chomping at the bit to be back playing. We have an excellent medical and rehab set up at the club and will ensure Tom gets the best possible support to ensure he fully recovers from the injury.

"The back three is a very competitive position at the club and with Tom absent, others will have a chance to stake a claim for the jersey."
