Owen Williams happy to stay at Leicester

Welsh fly-half Owen Williams insists he is happy at Leicester but still hopes he can force his way into the Wales set-up, despite not having heard from the national team.

Speculation about the impressive 22-year-old's future has been rife with Williams' former club Scarlets said to be keen to bring him back to Wales.

Williams is said to be in advanced negotiations over the extension of his contract and hopes that staying in England won't hinder his chances of entering Wales coach Warren Gatland's plans. Fly-half has been a problem position for Gatland in recent seasons but accomplished displays from Dan Biggar in the autumn internationals tightened his hold on the No.10 jersey.

"I'm happy to stay at this club," said Williams. "If it means playing in front of 24,000 people every week and playing in big games, then I want to play for Leicester. Hopefully it doesn't affect my Wales chances in the future, but we'll see how it goes.

"The Premiership is a tough league and there are no easy games. Every week is a grind and, after two years at the club, I like to think I have improved a bit. I just want to win things with Leicester and if I'm doing well, then all good. I've not heard anything from Wales."

Williams' chances of a Wales call would potentially be hindered by a Leicester extension as Welsh regulations say that a player who signs future deals with clubs outside of Wales will only be selected in exceptional circumstances.
