Scarlets hooker Emyr Phillips will undergo surgery on a dislocated shoulder and looks set to miss Wales' Six Nations campaign, the Guinness PRO12 club have announced.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury in the 17-15 defeat by Ospreys on Saturday and will be ruled out for up to three months, which could see him miss the entire Six Nations campaign.

Wales begin the tournament at the start of a Rugby World Cup year at home to England on February 6 and finish against Italy on March 21.

Scarlets confirmed that Phillips, who has been capped three times by Wales, would go under the knife in early January.

The club said in a statement: "Scarlets can today confirm that hooker Emyr Phillips will undergo surgery in the New Year.

"Phillips, 27, dislocated his right shoulder in the West Wales derby clash against Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium last Saturday and will undergo surgery on Friday, 2nd January.

"It is expected that Phillips will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks."
