Wales coach Warren Gatland has included nine uncapped players in their 47-man Rugby World Cup training squad.

Fly-half James Hook is included in the long list while there are a host of fresh faces with five uncapped forwards named: Exeter's Tomas Francais, Cardiff Blues' Kristian Dacey, Bath's Dom Day, Ospreys' Rory Thornton and Gloucester's Ross Moriarty.

In the backs Cardiff Blues' Gareth Anscombe, Newport Gwent Dragons' Jack Dixon and Tyler Morgan and Ospreys' Eli Walker also get the nod.

Gloucester's Hook gets a chance to impress but there is no place for Cardiff Blues' flanker Josh Navidi or Leicester's Owen Williams. All 12 players who are on dual contracts are also included.

"As a coaching team we are extremely happy with the blend of the squad in terms of the experience we are able to include as well as the young talent that has really impressed us," Gatland said. "The easy part for the players has been done in terms of being selected, the hard work will begin from day one with a huge schedule of preparation ahead of them.

"The players will face a tough couple of months of intensive training, we will be taking them to Switzerland, Qatar and Poland and I can assure everyone they are no holiday camps.

"We put a lot of emphasis on conditioning and preparation in 2011 which worked well for us and we are looking to step that up again this time.

"The 47 players all have the opportunity to make that 31-man party and I'm sure they will all be eager to feature in a World Cup on these shores.

"We believe the longer we are together the better we perform and this summer of preparation will give us every opportunity to be at our best come Rugby World Cup."

The Wales squad will meet on June 15 for conditioning training before then journeying to Switzerland (July 1-15) and Doha (July 20-29). Their first World Cup warm-up is against Ireland on August 8 and they will then go to Spala for seven nights before playing Ireland again on August 29. Their final 31-man squad will be named on August 31 with Wales then facing Italy on September 5 before opening their World Cup campaign against Uruguay on September 20.
