Wales are sweating on the fitness of Liam Williams after the versatile back underwent surgery on a foot injury.

Williams, who is equally adept on the wing and at fullback, will stay in the camp but the news will be a concern for Warren Gatland who has already seen one of his star backs - Jonathan Davies - ruled out of the tournament.

The Scarlets back has become an integral part of the Wales side and featured in all five of their 2015 Six Nations matches. He has won 23 caps to date and Gatland will hope he has him available for their World Cup run-in.

Wales' first warm-up match is on August 8, against Ireland, before which they will travel to Switzerland and Qatar as they step up their World Cup preparations.
