Former Wales captain Ryan Jones has been appointed as the Welsh Rugby Union's head of rugby participation.

Jones, a triple Six Nations Grand Slam winner who collected 75 caps, retired from playing last year.

The WRU said that the 34-year-old will join the Union's executive board with a remit of getting more people across Wales engaged more often with rugby at all levels and in all its forms. In doing so, he will represent more than 300 clubs across Wales.

Jones will join newly-appointed WRU head of rugby performance Geraint John on the board after the Union's former head of rugby job was split into two roles.
