Newport and Wales centre Jason Jones-Hughes, who had been in plaster for a over a month after injuring his ankle at the end of last season, could still face a further lengthy lay off as the injury has not made satisfactory progress.
He picked up the ankle problem playing for Wales against the French Barbarians in May and exacerbated the damage during his clubs tour to South Africa. "I had it in plaster for a month and was hoping it would mend, but it hasn't come along as well as we'd have liked. I've got to see a specialist and the worst scenario is I could be out for a while." he has told a Welsh newspaper.
In all likelihood he could miss between six and eight weeks at the beginning of the season, making him doubtful for the majority of pool games in his clubs European Cup debut.
