Harris the star at the Arms Park
October 27, 2001

Iestyn Harris made a record-breaking Heineken Cup debut as Cardiff ran Glasgow ragged at the Arms Park.

The former Leeds rugby league star scored 31 points, a Cardiff individual record for the tournament, including a hat-trick of tries.

Fly-half Harris has been tipped to make his Wales debut next month, and on Saturday's evidence there seems nothing to stop him.

He produced an inspired performance, matching his running skills with some precision goal-kicking as Cardiff cruised to a 46-7 victory in Pool Five.

All three of Harris' touchdowns were wonderful individual efforts as he left the Glasgow defence floundering through some incredible jinking skills.

He also created a try for his fellow rugby league Arms Park arrival Anthony Sullivan by executing a pin-point cross-kick that Sullivan caught to score wide out.

Sullivan also finished with three tries as Cardiff strengthened their chances of reaching the quarter-finals.

Harris later played down his achievement, claiming: "It was nice to get a hat-trick of tries, but I've got an awful lot to learn and I am still learning."
