Llanelli look to step nearer quarter-finals
January 4, 2002

Llanelli will be looking to take one step closer this year's Heineken Cup quarter-finals and keep the pressure on group leaders Leicester tonight when they take on Perpignan at Stade Aime Giral.

A Scarlets success would set up a potential group winner-takes-all Stradey Park showdown with reigning European champions Tigers on Saturday week.

"If French clubs have a weakness, and there is probably only one, then it is their temperament," said Llanelli coach Gareth Jenkins.

"It is going to be up to us to try and unsettle Perpignan, and if we can beat them, then it really sets up the clash with Leicester.

"This is a big fortnight for Llanelli Rugby Club - it could really make or break our season," he added.

If Llanelli lose and Leicester overwhelm hapless Welford Road visitors Calvisano on Saturday, then the Tigers will march on as group winners.
