Wyatt full of confidence ahead of Perpignan clash
January 4, 2002

Llanelli lock Chris Wyatt believes his side have nothing to fear going into their crucial Heineken Cup clash with Perpignan tonight.

He believes the Scarlets have the self-belief necessary to further their European prospects.

Wyatt told the Western Mail, "The team's mentality is that we have prepared properly and now we have to perform in Perpignan. We are coming off the back of a very important win at Bridgend and that has given us confidence. Now we have to build on that performance for this game in France.

"It's going to be a huge and very passionate crowd and it can sometimes break visiting teams, but we feel we have the mental steel to contend with that crowd and hopefully lay the foundations of victory.

"But they are going to be determined not to allow that to happen. Hopefully we are going to come out of there with the victory we are looking for, whether it is by one point or whatever.

"It's down to self-belief in the things that you do and in your ability to contain everything a French side can throw at you. We feel we have the team, squad and management to do that - when we are called upon to pull together, we seem to be able to produce the goods.

"But there will be no bigger test of whether or not we can pull together than when we take the field against Perpignan."

Victory there should guarantee the Scarlets the quarter-final place they crave. The next task would be to secure a home draw in the knock-out stage, but that can only be achieved by beating Leicester by more than three points at Stradey Park next week.
