Munster almost blow Heineken semi spot
January 26, 2002

Munster took full advantage of the wind in the first half to run up a 16-3 interval lead - and it was a good job too.

For after the break the boot was on the other foot as Stade Francais stormed back and fell only two points short of pulling off a great escape act.

And if it hadn't been for the sin-binning of flanker Pierre Rabadan 18 minutes from time, Stade would probably have finished the job and clinmched the Heineken Cup semi-final spot that was up for grabs.

Fly-half Ronan O'Gara's boot did much of the damage for Munster, landing two penalties, a drop goal and a conversion to Anthony Horgan's 19th-minute try.

"We thought they would be vulnerable running at them at keeping away from their powerful pack," said Munster full-back Dominic Crotty.

"Our discipline was fantastic and we had guys working hard in the second half so that our tackles made towards the end were one-on-one."
