Glasgow shook off their injury worries to smash their Bridgend hoodoo at Hughenden with a 21-16 victory.

The men from Brewery Field were the only side they had never beaten in the Welsh/Scottish League, but not only did the Scots bury the jinx, they produced a solid all-round display to carve out their first triumph in nine league matches.

Bridgend claimed an early 6-0 lead thanks to a penalty and drop-goal by Craig Warlow before Glasgow burst back into the contest midway through the half with a searing break by scrum-half Graeme Beveridge.

He expertly drew the last marker, Adrian Durston, before releasing Scotland utility back Glenn Metcalfe, who was left with a cruise to the line.

Graeme Kiddie missed the conversion, but he was quick to make amends, banging over a penalty from at least 45 metres to give his side the lead for the first time.

Two minutes later, however, the initiative was regained by Bridgend when Warlow clipped over his second drop-goal.

The Welsh defence seemed to be comfortably stemming the Glasgow tide, but they surrendered another touchdown in stoppage time before the break.

Wing Mike Bartlett did the initial damage with a dash down the middle. The ball was taken on by Donnie MacFadyen and Lee Harrison before Gordon Simpson sent Andy Henderson over.

Kiddie was left with his most difficult kick to date, but thumped it over from the touchline.

They were slow out the traps at the restart, however, and slack tackling allowed Lions star Dafydd James to power his way through for a Bridgend touchdown, goaled by Warlow.

Glasgow responded in positive fashion with a 40-metre dash by lock Jason White which forced the Welshmen to concede a penalty in their own danger zone and Kiddie claimed back the lead.

Three minutes later, Kiddie was substituted by Calvin Howarth who was making his injury-delayed debut after coming on loan from Edinburgh. He made an immediate impression by calmly slotting a 35-metre penalty.
