Springboks clinch series with Wales
June 15, 2002

South Africa sealed a 2-0 series win over South Africa after a 19-8 victory over Wales in Cape Town.

After a strong performance from Steve Hansen's team the sides were locked together at 8-8 with twenty minutes to go. But the Springboks pulled away to seal the win.

The ties were level at 3-3 after penalties from Stephen Jones and Andre Pretorius until injury time in the first half when fullback Brent Russell dived over to give the Boks the lead 8-3 at the interval.

Wales skipper Colin Charvis levelled the scores shortly after the break after good work from his forwards drove him over following a five metre lineout.

The Spingboks responded with two further penalties from Pretorius as the rain made conditions difficult for expansive rugby.

The Boks selaed the win late in the second half when an attempted clearance kick by Colin Charvis on his own line was charged down and then touched down for the try by Craig Davidson.
