Jenkins heading back to Pontypridd
June 24, 2002

Neil Jenkins is set to return to his former club Pontypridd in a two year deal, ending months of speculation about his future.

The Western Mail reports that the world-record Test points scorer has decided to leave Cardiff after three seasons with the Blue and Blacks to end his career with the club where he first made his name.

It is understood Jenkins has agreed personal terms with the Sardis Road outfit.

All that remains now is for the two clubs to agree a transfer fee as the British Lions fly-half leaves with a year still to run on his Cardiff deal.

Jenkins knows that if he stays put in the capital he will have to share the No 10 jersey with Iestyn Harris and Nicky Robinson.

Cardiff chairman Peter Thomas said he understood Jenkins's need for regular rugby but insisted he was not eing forced to leave.

"We want to keep Neil Jenkins at this club and if anything extend his contract. As far as Neil is concerned, I don't think he is too bothered either way.

"But like any great player, and he is a great player, he just wants to play as much rugby as he can. Maybe he feels that opportunity will come at Pontypridd more than it will at Cardiff."
