Mercedes engines helped lure Massa to Williams
Felipe Massa says Mercedes engines were a factor in his decision to join Williams for 2014.
The deal was announced on Monday and will see Massa replace Pastor Maldonado as Valtteri Bottas' team-mate next year. His arrival at the team will coincide with a switch from Renault to Mercedes engines as well as a shake-up in the technical regulations.
Rumours in the paddock suggest the Mercedes engine could be one of the strongest next year under the new V6 turbo regulations and Massa said it had helped ease his decision to join the team.
"I think next year is a big change, especially talking about engines," he told Sky Sports News. "Many people are really positive about Mercedes and you hear so many good things about the engines for Mercedes in 2014 and that's the engine we are going to use here.
"Many things will change, not just by the rules, but also by the results at the end. For sure, big teams always have more possibilities to build a good car, but it's a big change for everybody and maybe you can see teams that did not have a good year in 2013 being in good shape for 2014."
New team-mate Bottas believes Massa will push Williams forwards under the new regulations.
"I am looking forward to having Felipe as my team-mate," he said. "He is a quick and experienced driver and together we will be pushing to the maximum to improve the car and get as many points as we can next season. We will be working throughout the winter to ensure we are ready for the challenge of 2014."
